Organizational Leadership Advisory · for growing businesses

Your business is outgrowing its leadership. Let's fix that before it costs you.

Most growing businesses hit the same wall: the founder is still making decisions that managers should be making, good people are leaving, and the culture that got you here is starting to fray. The problem is rarely the people — it's the system around them.

Margin Leadership works with founders and CEOs to build the management and organizational capacity their business needs to scale with confidence. We diagnose before we prescribe — and we measure success by how your business performs, not by how many people attended a workshop.

You might be here because…

If any of this sounds like your business, you're in the right place.

01

Your best people, back at your desk

You promoted your best people — and now they keep coming back to you with problems they should be solving themselves. You're busier than before you had a management layer. The people are good. The gap is that nobody taught them how to lead.

02

Good people are leaving

And the honest answer to why isn't as clear as you'd like it to be. Your retention numbers are telling you something about management and culture that nobody is quite saying out loud. Exit interviews give you polished answers, not real ones.

03

Your leadership team isn't a team

Decisions are slow, conversations are careful, and the tension at the top is felt everywhere below. You're not sure if you have a people problem or a structure problem. Probably both.

04

The culture is starting to fray

You're scaling but the culture that made your business good is starting to feel inconsistent. New people don't feel it the way the original team did. What worked at 20 people isn't working now — and you haven't had the time, or the outside perspective, to address it properly.

These are organizational problems. They have practical solutions. And they compound fast if left unaddressed — in turnover costs, in the CEO's time, and in the ceiling they place on your growth.

How we work together

Most clients start with a conversation and a diagnostic. Everything else follows from there.

We don't prescribe solutions before we understand the problem. Every engagement begins with an honest assessment of what's actually happening in your business — not what's easiest to deliver.

Leadership Audit

A structured diagnostic of how leadership is functioning across your business. We interview key people, assess your management culture, and deliver a findings report with clear priorities directly to you — not a generic scorecard, but a specific picture of your organization and what it needs.

Fixed fee · typically 3–4 weeks
Build capability

Manager Development

A 4–6 month program that gives your managers the practical skills they were never taught — how to give real feedback, hold people accountable, handle conflict, and lead without leaning on the CEO. Delivered in cohort workshops with individual coaching between sessions.

Cohort-based · 4–6 months
Ongoing partnership

Retained Advisor

A monthly retainer that puts an experienced organizational advisor in your corner — for the hiring decisions, the difficult conversations, the team dynamics, and the strategic people questions that don't wait for a scheduled workshop. A part-time Chief People Officer who thinks like a business leader.

Monthly retainer · minimum 6 months

We also work with leadership teams on alignment and strategy facilitation, support new managers through their first 90 days, and speak at leadership events and company offsites.

The process

We work the way a good consultant should — by understanding the problem before recommending the solution.

01

Discovery conversation

A 30-minute call to understand what's happening in your business and whether working together makes sense. No pitch, no pressure — just an honest conversation about where you are and where you want to be.

02

Organizational diagnostic

Before we recommend anything, we assess what's actually going on — through stakeholder interviews, a management culture survey, and observation. Most clients are surprised by what the diagnostic surfaces.

03

Findings and priorities

We present our findings directly to you — a clear, specific picture of your leadership challenges, their root causes, and a prioritized set of recommendations. This alone is valuable, regardless of what comes next.

04

Tailored intervention

We design and deliver the right engagement for your specific situation — a manager development program, a leadership team alignment, an ongoing advisory relationship, or a combination. Nothing off the shelf.

Our goal is always the same: to leave your organization more capable than we found it — not dependent on us to maintain it.

About Margin Leadership

Leadership is the one thing your business can't afford to leave to chance.

Most leadership development is designed for large corporations with HR departments, generous budgets, and the patience for programs that take years to show results. Growing businesses don't have any of those things — and they face a different, more urgent set of challenges. That gap is where Margin Leadership operates.

What we stand for

Purpose, direction, and the principles we work by.

Our mission

To equip leaders who build great organizations — and through them, create workplaces where people and performance thrive together.

Our vision

To be the leadership advisory that growing businesses trust most — the firm founders and CEOs turn to when they are ready to build something that truly lasts.

Our values
CARE
CContinuous Learning

We stay curious — about our clients' industries, about what the research says, and about what is working in the room and what is not. We grow through every engagement, because the moment we stop learning, we stop being useful.

AAdding Value

We measure our success by what changes in the client's business — not by hours delivered or programs completed. We do not ask what we can offer. We ask what they genuinely need to move forward, and we build from there.

RRespect

We see the person before the problem. Whether we are working with a CEO or a first-time manager, we bring the same quality of attention, honesty, and care. Dignity is not a policy here — it is a practice, in every conversation and every engagement.

EExcellence

We hold ourselves to the standard our clients deserve, not the standard that is easiest to maintain. That means honest diagnostics over comfortable ones, rigorous work over impressive-sounding work, and follow-through long after the program ends.

"We develop leaders who deliver measurable results."

Management

Why your best performers make your worst managers — and what to do about it

The skills that made someone exceptional as an individual contributor — deep expertise, personal ownership, high standards — are often the exact skills that make management difficult. This isn't a character flaw. It's a transition almost nobody is prepared for.

Retention

The real reason good people leave growing businesses — and why most founders misdiagnose it

When talented people leave, the instinct is to look at compensation. The data points elsewhere — almost always toward management. Not bad managers in the dramatic sense, but managers never given the tools to lead well.

The 30-person wall: what happens to culture and management when your business starts to scale

There is a predictable inflection point in almost every growing business — usually between 25 and 40 people — where the informal leadership that worked before stops working. Most founders hit it without seeing it coming.

What a leadership audit actually reveals — and why most CEOs are surprised by the findings
